Comedy Dojo is Toronto’s most hands-on, no-fluff stand-up comedy intensive: a month-long immersion designed to take you from concept to stage-ready material with guaranteed stage time. Across four workshops, you will learn the mechanics of writing and performing, develop jokes in a writers' room environment, and receive private 2-on-1 coaching from the owners and bookers of Backroom Comedy Club. The program is built for first-timers, returning comics, and working comedians, providing guaranteed access to Wednesday and Friday open mics for consistent, real-world experience, mentorship, and development, not just theory.

Backroom Comedy Club is an intimate, 50-seat speakeasy-style venue founded in 2022 by two comedians, focused on delivering diverse, high-energy stand-up shows. It features a mix of local and touring talent, including themed and multilingual performances, with a casual bar setting that creates a close, interactive experience between performers and the audience.
What's Included?
Guaranteed Stage Time
As a Comedy Dojo student, you get priority and guaranteed access to limited spots at three weekly open mics. This includes two 4-minute set nights (Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:00 PM) and the valuable 90-second "Kill Tony"-style feedback mic (Sundays at 10:00 PM). Get consistent reps in—because this is where progress happens.
Accelerated Development
This program is a 4-week intensive focused on real-world practice. We highly encourage you to utilize the guaranteed stage time throughout, as "This is where reps turn into progress". You are essentially fast-tracking years of slow development into a single, focused month of rapid growth and refinement.
Showcase & Framework
The program ends with a live initiation showcase performance. You leave not just with a credit, but with a repeatable framework for diagnosing and continually improving your material. Stop guessing why jokes bomb and leave with a clear plan to keep progressing long after the program ends.
